10 "Healthy" Desserts To Try For The Holidays

12/06/2016 0 Comments

Ahh, The Holidays. The most wonderful time of the year, and the perfect time to over eat and spoil yourself with all sorts of goodies. You can usually find me hanging out by the dessert table during my family’s annual Christmas Party; my job every year is to contribute one delicious dessert for everyone to enjoy, but since adopting a healthier lifestyle my eyes have been opened to the many, many delicious and healthy desserts out there that can satisfy any sweet tooth. With a few substitutions, you can get all the treats you love but without the added calories, fat, and guilt. Here are 10 of my favorite desserts for you to try this holiday.

Gingerbread Fudge

Yup, sounds amazing right? This recipe by ifoodreal is made with only 9 simple ingredients, 6 of which are most likely stocked in your spice rack right now. Combine them all in a food processor, pour into a baking dish and let cool overnight…doesn’t get much easier.

No Bake Eggnog Bites

Softy, chewy and doughy, these no bake eggnog bites are super simple to make and a tasty alternative to the classic holiday beverage. This recipe also has options to make the already vegan/gluten/dairy free recipe paleo.

No Bake Chocolate Gingerbread Truffles

Rolling right along with our no bake theme, these chocolate gingerbread truffles are another super tasty dessert to serve to your friends and family this holiday. Some noteworthy ingredients that you’ll need to pick up at the store before making these bites are molasses, dates, cashew butter and coconut cream.

Cinnamon Roll Oatmeal Cookies

I’m a sucker for a good oatmeal cookie, so mix in the words “cinnamon roll” and I’m sold. These chewy cookies are only 97 calories each, and take just 15 minutes to bake.

Skinny Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars

No holiday is complete without a healthy dose of cheesecake. Pumpkin flavored goodies last long after Thanksgiving for me, so this yummy cheesecake and crunchy crust are a must for me!

Apple Crisp Stuffed Baked Apples

If there is any aspect of fruit in my desserts I immediately grant myself a free pass…especially when it looks like this.

Sweet Potato Pie

This is one dessert I will be looking to introduce this holiday. This super easy (and paleo) sweet potato pie sits right around 300 calories per slice, but hey- every one of them is worth it.

Greek Yogurt Pumpkin Bread

Savory and sweet, this chocolate chip pumpkin bread would also be a great pre or post holiday breakfast with a little butter!

Super Foods Nut Bark

As a fan of all chocolate bark recipes, this festive rendition with dried fruit and mixed nuts sounds like the perfect snack to munch on after dinner.

Chai Cheesecake Bars

One more cheesecake for the road, shall we? These cheesecake bars  from Bakerita.com are made using soaked cashews for the filling, along with all your favorite spices (read: cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and ginger).
