Aquashard London – Brunch Above Tower Bridge

11/09/2017 0 Comments

Located on the 31st floor of London’s iconic and tallest skyscraper known as “The Shard”, Aquashard boasts inventive British cuisine and some of the most breathtaking views of the Thames River the city has to offer. Ultra modern in both design and menu, I was lucky enough to score a weekend brunch reservation for our last full day in London.

To me London and brunch go hand and hand. I made a point to try and find the best brunch spots in London. When I began fine tuning my itinerary a few months ago, Aquashard was near the top of the list. I made my reservation online a few weeks in advance and crossed my fingers that we would A.) get a table and B.) the table would be by a window. Lucky for us, we ended up sitting in one of the best spots in the restaurant. There is nothing quite like brunch overlooking the iconic Tower Bridge and Tower of London.

The weekend brunch menu offers two different options to choose from: Brunch A La Carte or the Set Brunch menu, which we went with. This option included a tasty green tomato gazpacho to start, followed by a starter, main course, pre-dessert and dessert. Basically, it was a lot of food. Meals in Europe are meant to be eaten and enjoyed for far longer than they are in the States. While this meal was far more than I would normally eat, it was consumed over the course of a two and a half hours. That makes it a little bit better, right?

I ordered myself a pot of English Breakfast tea and the Lobster Benedict to start. The dish was covered in a delicious Hollandaise sauce and topped with sea greens and caviar. This was by far the most savory and filling part of my meal. I did my best to eat it slow and engrave the flavors into my brain. Just thinking about it now has my mouth watering! For my main course I decided on a savory cornmeal porridge topped with Spenwood cheese and herbs. While equally as delicious, I could only manage a few bites. In hindsight I would have ordered something lighter to follow the Lobster Benedict, but I was still very happy with this dish.

For our pre-dessert we were served a delicious yogurt sorbet with crispy freeze dried strawberries. It was an excellent balance of sweet, creamy and refreshing; the perfect palate cleanser before the final course. We finished off our meal with a salted caramel chocolate mousse topped with crispy mandarin and dark chocolate shavings. The crispy mandarin feel like pop rocks in your mouth, tingly on your tongue and completely unexpected. I wanted to box this dessert up and ship it home!

This restaurant has the most incredible lighting; two floors of floor to ceiling windows overlooking the river Thames below. The decor is minimalist and neutral. The designers used varying shades of grey to convey the modern and chic vibe they were after. Nothing here takes away from the true focal point: the view.

The bathroom walls and doorways were covered in beautiful floor-to-ceiling tinted glass. The stalls were so well hidden that I almost missed them when I first walked in! The marble topped vanity and sinks look out over the train station and river below and fill the room with light. Definitely a dream bathroom.

If you’re looking for a delicious meal with views straight out of a postcard, then this restaurant is a must. I found the pricing reasonable given the service and the quality of the meals. It can get busy so I do recommend placing a reservation ahead of time. Definitely one of the most memorable meals of my trip and high on my list of recommendations for anyone visiting London town!
