Nestled on Portobello Road in gorgeous Notting Hill sits one special cafe worth venturing outside the busy streets of London to visit. The comfortable and trendy Farm Girl Cafe brings a sampling of Australian Cafe culture to the busy city streets. It was here that I found myself on my first morning in London enjoying a delicious slice of mashed avo-toast and their infamous rose latte, and it was here that I fell in love with everything Farm Girls stands for: delicious, holistic and inventive meals and drinks certainly leave a lasting impression.
I had first heard about Farm Girl through a London based influencer I follow on Instagram, and so when planning my first trip to London I made sure to squeeze a visit into the itinerary. Located at the southern end of Portobello Road, you’d almost miss it if you weren’t looking for the place. Set back from the street, Farm Girl offers a welcomed retreat from the crowds that line these streets on a daily basis. The tiny courtyard at the front is a bright and happy space, with pretty pink tables and plenty of greenery that make for the perfect photo-op.
Inside you find more of that welcoming, cozy vibe in the decor. The checkered walls are a bright and cheery aqua green, along with plush cushions on each of the benches, and a cozy loft like space with a large wood communal table. That was where I sat, overlooking the room and admiring the barista’s handy work while they whipped up all sorts of colorful drinks.
Owners Rose Mann and Anthony Hood have set out to provide the residents and visitors of Notting Hill with a menu that is both tasty and nourishing. They offer all day breakfast options as well as an assortment of lunch time dishes (think soups, salads, and wraps) and plenty of sweet treats for dessert. The cafe is also well known for its delicious acai bowls and beverages, most notably the Rose Latte or the new Charcoal Latte.
I ordered myself the smashed avo toast on rye with a poached egg and a Rose Latte for brunch and was extremely pleased! The avocado toast had pomegranate sprinkled on top, which added a surprising burst of sweetness to an otherwise savory meal and hit all the right notes. The latte, which uses rose water and has dried rose petals sprinkled on top, was almost too pretty to drink. Their selection of drinks is almost as long as the food menu, so there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Since my return back to the states, Rose and Anthony have expanded the Farm Girl franchise to include one new location at 1 Carnaby Street in Soho in partnership with Sweaty Betty. This in-store cafe is just one part of the experience the clothing brand wishes to offer its shoppers. Guests can take a class, shop until they drop, and then finish off their visit with a delicious meal and cup of coffee! This expansion will no doubt help to grow the already stellar reputation this little cafe has with locals.
