In an ideal world, all of the outfits I save to my Pinterest board would automatically appear inside of my closet. Unfortunately that is not a thing yet (someone invent this, please), but I recently stumbled upon a brand that comes pretty darn close: Trunk Club. I had heard about services like Trunk Club before, but I wanted to know if they were worth the hype. So with the help of my very own personal stylist, I ordered my first Trunk.
I think most people my age can agree that transitioning into a young professional wardrobe can be challenging. After spending four years of college dressing for comfort I was left with a closet full of jeans, sneakers, and sweatshirts – not exactly the ideal wardrobe for a young working woman. When I walk into my current closet, I see the same tired pieces I’ve owned for years. My hope with Trunk Club is that I’ll be able to rebuild my wardrobe at my own pace, and finally have a closet full of clothes I love.
Seeing as I didn’t know much about the company or the service when I signed up, I wanted to share my full review with you all. Similar services like Stitch Fix have gotten mixed reviews, so I went into this with high expectations. I have also filmed a full haul & try on video for you to watch as well. Hopefully it can be of some help to you should you choose to look into this service!
On to the review!
WHAT IS TRUNK CLUB?
Trunk Club is a clothing delivery service by Nordstrom designed to help you build your best wardrobe with the help of your very own stylist. Together with your help and input, your stylist will pull from Nordstrom’s extensive collection of brands and help fill your closet with clothes you love. You can receive as many Trunks as you would like, as frequently as you like.
HOW TO USE TRUNK CLUB
You will be asked to fill out a small questionnaire when you sign up. This will allow you to specify what this Trunk is for, and offer any additional notes for your stylist. Inside of your account on the website is a messaging center where you can converse with your stylist. You can also send your stylist a link to your Pinterest boards to give them a better sense of what you’re looking for.
After my stylist, Cassie, had curated my first Trunk, she sent me a preview. This allowed me to approve or remove any of the pieces she had pulled before it shipped. Some of the items she had selected were similar to things I already own, so I was able to swap them out for something else before the Trunk was shipped to me.
Trunk Club is free to sign up, and charges a $25 styling fee for every Trunk you order. That $25 can be used as a credit on any purchases you make. The cost of the items inside of your Trunk is totally up to you. The Nordstrom-based inventory carries items in the $40-$300 range, with outerwear starting at around $90. You and your stylist can set your budget to whatever works best for you.
You are not obligated to keep anything or everything in your box. Keep what you like, send back what you don’t – the shipping is free both ways. However, it is important to note that if you do send everything back you are still charged for the styling fee.
THREE WAYS TO SHOP:
Members can visit one of the 7 Clubhouse locations to work with a Trunk Club stylist in person. Here you can try on clothes, get face to face suggestions for outfits and pairings, and take home your purchases the same day.
- Order a Trunk
Have your Trunk delivered straight to your door and try the pieces in the comfort of your own home. You will be able to preview and edit the Trunk online before it ships. Keep the pieces you want, or return the ones you don’t with the return shipping label provided for you. You card won’t be charged until Trunk Club receives your returned items.
- Custom Clothing Orders (Men Only)
Order custom clothing through Trunk Club. Male members can send their stylist their measurements and create their own custom clothing. Anything from button downs to outwear can be made to your exact specifications.
MY FIRST TRUNK
The box arrived within 5 days and simply put, it was amazing. The durable cardboard box looks exactly like a suitcase and has a nifty handle for carrying. Inside there was a pair of booties, two dresses, one pair of leggings, two pairs of jeans, three tops, one pair of pantyhoes, a blazer, and one pair of earrings.
Everything I ordered was within the price range I had set with Cassie. The most expensive item was a pair of Paige Denim jeans at $169.00 and the least expensive was the Gibson ruffle top for $39.53 that I ended up keeping. Overall I was really happy with all of the items! I felt like they were all pieces I would pick out on my own, which was important to me.
I had been nervous about the fit of some these items, but they fit me perfectly. Generally I have a very difficult time shopping for jeans and had told Cassie that up front. As you can see in my try on video, everything else fit me really well!
I ended up sending things back for 3 main reasons:
- I already owned something similar
- I knew I had no use for it in the near future
When I was finished trying everything on, I gave Cassie my review of the Trunk. She has made notes and adjustments for the next one, so I am excited to try this again soon! I was really impressed with the service and more importantly, the clothes. This would be a great service to try out if you are like me and hate going to the mall, or simply want and outsiders perspective on your wardrobe. It’s fun to have someone else pick things out to try on for a change!
Have you ever tried a clothing service like this? What was your experience like, and did you prefer it over regular online shopping? Be sure to leave me a comment and let me know!
