After a childhood spent cooking beside his grandmother on Saltbox Farm, owner Ben Elliott knew that he wanted his latest project—a cafe and brewery in the heart of historic Concord Massachusetts—to evoke the same feelings of comfort and heartfelt cuisine. Now this farm-to-table eatery, along with Saltbox Farm’s CSA program and seasonal farm stands, has been providing locals and tourists with fresh produce and delicious meals for nearly 10 years.

Simple and rustic in both ingredients and presentation, Saltbox Kitchen offers seasonal, globally inspired farm-to-table dishes in a relaxed and cozy environment. Combining the wholesome, simple ingredients from his farm with the techniques and skills he acquired while working in Boston’s more upscale fine dining establishments, Ben has successfully created a healthy and unique menu that set Saltbox Kitchen apart from the local competition.

A short 30 minute drive from Boston, this corner side cafe, brewery, and full-service caterer features rustic wood tables, warm copper finishes and bright open kitchen. Customers can watch first hand as the chef’s carefully craft their dishes using only fresh and local ingredients served on an assortment of antique and hand painted plates.

All orders are placed at the front counter, where the daily specials are listed on the chalkboard and plated for display in the cooler. The menu at Saltbox is always rotating and varies greatly depending on the season, so there is always something new and exciting to look forward to! Saltbox also offers a wide variety of ready made entrees, vegetables, salads and desserts that guests can have boxed up and purchase to go.

After placing their order at the front counter, guests can seat themselves at one of the many farm style tables or at the bar style table tops along the front windows. I set up shop by the front window with my own personal pot of mint tea and a slice of their delicious Pistachio Banana Bread.

This place had such a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, and the interior designer in me appreciated the attention to detail. The menu is eclectic and interesting, and my slice of banana bread was to die for. I will definitely be coming back to this place in the spring or summer to try a fresh salad or even one of the cooking classes they offer!
