One of my favorite rooms in a home is the dining room. It is here that so many memories are made, holidays are spent, and meals are enjoyed. Sadly, less and less people are finding a need for a designated dining space. Open concept living has changed how and where we eat dramatically. Meals on the go and enjoying dinner on the couch or in the kitchen has become the norm for many people, but I feel that nothing can truly replace a designated dining room.

I like to think that with so many of us home, more of our meals are being cooked and enjoyed with loved ones. In a twisted way, that forced connection and time spent together has been a blessing during this time. I’ve put together a curated list of dining spaces that capture that sense of comfort and warmth we all seek. Hopefully you’ll find some inspiration for your own dining room as well.

Designer Lisa Staton faced an interesting challenge when designing this 20th century cottage. The couple, who are originally from India, had recently moved back to Seattle from London. Their request was a home that infused all three cultural references. So Lisa mixed modern and vintage furniture with Indian art and accessories to create this swoon worthy space.

This stunning dining room designed by Arent & Pyke features a luxe leather bench seat and striking black floors. This design is an ode to the 30’s, and manages to feel inviting and cozy despite the monochromatic color palette. This homeowner is an art curator, so he wanted to be able to change the art in any room without disrupting the design.

I featured this dining room in my 10 Tasteful Ways to Add Black post and had to mention it here as well. The monochromatic color scheme might not be for everyone, but I absolutely love the notion of a photo wall here. Putting artwork from floor to ceiling is such a wonderful way to add your personality into a room. Art always makes a wonderful talking point.

This cozy corner nook is the perfect solution for those of us without a proper dining room. A round table is a great way to seat guests without compromising space. Keeping a bar cart within reach is another great idea these days.

Our last featured space is by Chris Loves Julia. When they purchased this fixer upper, there was little counter and entertaining space. By moving back the walls and recessing the appliances, they were able to fit their dining table into this space between the kitchen and living area. Can’t you just imagine hosting people here?
