Holiday cookies are easily one of my favorite traditions. Each year I spend hours in the kitchen baking them from scratch, trying to find that years perfect holiday cookie. This year, I wanted to give a few non-traditional recipes a try. There are so many wonderful cookie creations outside of gingerbread and snickerdoodle! This list is just the tip of the iceberg, but I hope it inspires you to get outside the box in the kitchen this holiday.

These Brown Butter Bourbon Pecan Chocolate Chunk Cookies are crunchy, chewy, and SO flavorful! You have to try these!

Brown Butter Bourbon Pecan Cookie

Just the name makes my mouth water! You can use any brand of Burbon you’d like to make these chewy cookies. They real key is the browned butter, which is made by over melting the butter in a skillet until it turns a nice golden brown. The prep work might take a little longer, but thankfully they only require nine minutes in the oven before you get to dig in!

German Lebkuchen Cookies

The perfect cookie to enjoy with a cup of tea, these German Lebkuchen’s are frosted in a yummy lemon glaze and full of seasonal flavor. The prep time for these cookies is slightly more involved (2 days of prep time as a matter of fact), but the results are one of a kind. These cookies are most similar to a gingerbread, and would make a great alternative!

Sea Salt Butterscotch Pretzel Cookies are my new salty/sweet obsession! Browned Butter adds depth to the flavor while the butterscotch and chocolate chips keep things perfectly sweet!

Sea Salt & Butterscotch Pretzel Cookies

This thick battered cookie incorporates all of the salty and sweet goodness we love. Thankfully this recipe does not require a mixer but you will need a little elbow grease. Topped with flaky sea salt, this is a cookie that might not make it to the table!

Caramel Apple Cookies

Who doesn’t love a frosted cookie? This cake-like cookie brings all the flavors of the fall into the holidays with a caramel glaze and toasted pecan sprinkles. The recipe suggests any tart apple, and you will need apple juice for these yummy cookies as well!

Espresso Shortbread Cookies

It wouldn’t be the holidays without a shortbread cookie, and these espresso cookies are the perfect dessert and would also make a great gift! All you need is a high quality espresso power to mix in with all the butter, flour and sugar we love in a shortbread.

Which cookie are you most excited to try? I’ll be whipping up a batch of the espresso shortbread this weekend!

Until next time,
